For over twenty years I’ve worked in experience and communications design as a practitioner, a facilitator, a thinker, and a leader. Above all, I’m a conscientious creative partner, whether working with a global brand’s executive teams, non-profits, artists, or entrepreneurs.

I’ve designed and produced websites, applications, identities, books, games, videos, programs, processes, strategies, products, and services. I’ve led skunkworks design teams to innovate, high-profile design teams to trailblaze, and world-class artists and photographers to create beautiful things. Author Harlan Ellison said of me, “finally a designer who knows what he’s doing.” I took it as a compliment.

I champion design as a human-centered problem-solving practice, encompassing forethought, aesthetic refinement, clear communication, frictionless product and service interactions, and enriched experiences. I’ve created a few “$300 Million Button” moments, including a simple design intervention that reduced call-center costs by millions.

I founded design consultancy Matter in 2002 (recognized by Seth Godin as a “purple cow” innovator). I previously worked at Sapient, Merge, and White Wolf. Among my clients are American Cancer Society, AT&T, The Economist, IBM, Marriott International, Nokia, Universal Music, and The W. K. Kellogg Foundation.

I’ve received awards and recognition from Communication Arts, How, Print, Graphic Design USA, AIGA, Billboard, CIO and other outlets. I’ve served on the Board of AIGA in Atlanta, and the Editorial Review Board for design journal Multi.
