I help clients be effective in print and digital media through communicative design.
As a practitioner and orchestrator of visual and human-centered design for more than 20 years, my work comprises research, strategy, and implementation, in roles from craftsman to consultant to entrepreneur.
I design identities, interfaces, ads, packaging, books, maps, graphs, games, stationery, posters, proposals, reports, brochures, and websites.
I conduct design research in offices, homes, and stores for such companies as AT&T, Marriott, Cox Communications, Coca-Cola, and The W.K. Kellogg Foundation.
After advancement at an in-house studio, a boutique agency, and a digital consultancy, I founded strategic design company Matter in 2002 and now run a new studio Particular.
The common theme through my work is crystallizing communication through a combination of strategy and aesthetics – connecting what is intended with what is experienced and understood.
This involves conveying nuance and complexity through visualized information, writing, and well-crafted media. I create communication products that inform and inspire my clients' employees and customers.
My brand work includes contextual research, analysis, experience modeling, and strategy. Other projects include identity systems, brand standards, and guidelines for communication and visualization.
With a semiotic approach, I focus on how meaning is formed and experienced in visual and textual language at customer touchpoints.
I help clients shape these systems of meaning around their core values, messaging intentions, and business objectives.
